Dick Truman of California State University Northridge, who as early as 1959 had written a Monte Carlo approach to the analysis of baseball strategy for operations research. 15 years later wrote a simulation program to computerize his investigations. He is memorialized in a great book by Alan Schwartz called the numbers game baseball's lifelong fascination with statistics. Jacob Pomeranky confirmed that Dick Truman was a saber member in the late 1970s and early 80s. And he was active in the early statistical analysis committee.
