Botswana is the second largest producer of diamonds in the world. It has a long-standing partnership with De Beers, but President Mecisi says his country gets a raw deal. He wants to see Botswana get more value out of its natural resources. The government also owns 15% of De Beers and there are fears that it will lose money if they don't strike a new deal soon.
