Nina dos Santos: I think this point is often made that, oh, it's too expensive to have children. But what about West Africa or some of these very poor countries where the fertility is very high? She says child care becomes a burden not simply because it's expensive in some kind of absolute sense vis-a-vis poorer countries. Dos Santos: The idea of child care being a commodity that you have to purchase in some sense isn't true for all societies.
