Freud's Interest in Archaeology

Merrim: Why was Freud so interested in archaeology and what is he driving out here with this analogy? Merrim: There are lots of ways of understanding Freud's interest in the RPG but I think we'll start with his personal interest. He was contemporaneous with some of the kind of great celebrity archaeologists such as Heinrich Schimann and Arthur Evans who were themselves associated with these great extraordinary discoveries. So there was a sense that there was something tangible there, that possibility of being able to touch the past.
