The Importance of Transparency in the Politics of Social Media
Privacy regulation would restrict what the platforms can collect and thereby limit the degree to which they can micro target messages to small communities. Another set of interventions would involve transparency mandates. Anti-trust intervention at least helps ensure that there's a diversity of decision makers and a diversity of platforms that users can choose from. Public digital media could also be regulated, just like we have public radio.
