The book is not meant to be read as like strictly autobiographical just that some of the elements like the setting and the time period she said that it is meant to mythologize parts of her life. There's a lot of really charming smaller stuff in this book that I think is a fun offset to the fact that it doesn't have what I found to be some like overwrought save everybody thing.
