In a co-founder relationship, I think it's very important whether the conversation is short or it takes months to have that there's no underlying discontent with what the roles are going to be. It's very common for co-founders to disagree ultimately as the company begins to scale or it's having issues. In those hard times, you really don't want to be backed out all the way to like "I should run the company instead and you should take a hike"
