The Impact of Social Media on the Spread of Misinformation During the Pandemic
The spread of misinformation online has skyrocketed. People tend to choose actions that lead to rewards or positive feedback and avoid those that lead to punishment. UCL's Laura Globic says social media platforms need an incentive structure where these social rewards and punishments are directly contingent on the accuracy of the information. We will watch this space to see whether or not this project ever really gets off the ground.
