The Light of the Sea, the Light of a Man Without Faith

Queequeg and his crew were stranded in a storm off the coast of Scotland. They tried to bail out their boat, but could not get hold of an oar or lance pole. Starbuck managed to set up a lantern with some matches on it; he then gave it to queequeg for hope. The ship was soon seen coming towards them as they dived into the sea. Queequeg said: "It tossed and gaped beneath the ship's bows"
