In modern society, know exactly. Weve found that when we see other humans display pride, we have this unavoidable, automatic sense that they deserve high status. Even when we instruct people in various ways to not do that, they sort of can't override that tendency to see the pride expression as indicating high status. So is the right type of pride, namely, authentic pride? Is that somehow then beneficial to society? And if not, why haven't we gotte rid of it yet? No, it's very much beneficial to society. The desire to feel pride is what gets us to work hard.
