What's Happening in the Early Modern Period?
The printing press brought scripture into the hands of individuals or families in a way that had never been done before. Calvin's view of the end was deeply individualistic, but some of his contemporaries who were millenarians or anabaptists had deeply collectivist views of the end times. It was really a richly diverse set of notions of the end that is circulating then and now.
