The Haber Bosch Process

The Haber Bosch process is responsible for half of the world's food production. Without it, there's a good chance that Hitler would have been destroyed in a few weeks instead of being able to wreak havoc for several years. The same thing that makes fertilizer good for creating crops and making each acre of agriculture yield more food was also integral to war and to explosives.
