The Origin of the Roman Alphabet
The romans took the alphabet from those same etruscans. By this point they were writing with ink, so began to change shape of letters. They changed the shape of gamma from upside down letter l to curvy letter c. The k sound was not used as an s sound at this point. But what happened to the g sound? Since gamma became letter c with a k sound, that meant that there was no letter for the g sound any more. So the romans created a new letter to represent the g sound, which became our modern letter g.
