Decongestants and Dysbiosis

Decongestant medications were the most impactful on causing dysbiosis. Proton pump inhibitors or acid lowering medication as it's a pressing medication was least impactful. Most decongestants are sympathomimetic, meaning they stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. This can help with fatigue and vasoconstriction to open up the nasal passage for breathing. But stress when levels are too high, when there’s too much activation on the sympathetic nervoussystem, this can lead to dysbiotic.
