The Role of the Head of the Commonwealth

A really important piece of glue in the commonwealth was queen elizabeth. She knew most of the players well and had a capacity to have friendly relationships with people, even when they were throwing sticks of dynamite at each other. The role of head of the commonwealth should not be seen simply an extension of the role of queen of britain. And i think there's an argument for saying that the queen is even more popular in africa than she is in some of the other commonwealth monarchies. That the african republics feel very strongly that the Queen is on their side.
