PwC surveyed more than 700 public company directors in America last year. Less than half of them thought their peers had a good enough grasp of ESG issues or cybersecurity. Nearly one in five said that their peers were reluctant to challenge management, which is arguably their most important job. Directors are promoting company insiders to the CEO role at a record rate.
