Cognitive Distorsions and Rumination in Depressed Patients
Cognitive distortions and ruminations arise as a result of defective circuitry in particular reasons of the brain. The depressed persons are not appropriately integrating sensory stimuli and memories, so that's why they don't see any value in things. Psychotherapeutic treatments such as SSRIs help to alleviate some of the bottom-up aspects of the origin of depression.
