What Was Hannibal's Military Ambition?
Hannibal's military aim was twofold. He wanted to secure that empire and get the Romans out of his hair. Secondly, he wanted to destroy the Roman Confederacy. Rome's power rested on its alliance system in central Italy. And what Hannibal wanted to do was to break this alliance up. It was a huge undertaking but he wanted to make sure that Rome could no longer threaten Carthage.
