The Frankfurt School was an attempt to combine the traditions of Marxism with that of psychoanalysis. I feel like all the Frankfurt tradition is actually, and I know this doesn't sound right, but I think it's much too hopeful about its critique of capitalism. And I think it doesn't fully integrate the negative power of the psychoanalytic critique. It's almost like psychoanalysis is put in the service of Marxism.
