Take two exposures one is the correct exposure for the entire painting and second is another exposure that you're just exposing to the gold so you might brighten that up or even get a little daylight balanced torch and just flick it up light painting over that area. stack those all those images into Photoshop stack them as layers and then you could using layer mask which all the gold members are just experts in now because that's all i make them do. It's a very important part of editing your images to be able to work with layer mask then you can just bring out the areas you want to bring out and hide the areas that you want to hide
