Kafka Streams: The Equivalent to the State Backend

Kafka becomes sort of the equivalent to the state backend. There are a couple of times when I was working with Apache Flink, where this is really inadequate because the amount of traffic that is required for the stream processor to actually manage state starts dwarfing just normal Kafka traffic. So I think of this more as an anomalous use case or sort of a special one rather than kind of the default, which is Kafka is fine, store your intermediate data in Kafka.
