General sotto asks his superior general mudaguchi, a man often referred to as a blockhead by some of his subordinates, permission to retreat. Mudaguchi will do the unthinkable here and sack three of his divisional generals, one for incompetence, one for ill health, and Sotto for disobedience. The resiliance of the defenders proved the morale that general slim had instilled in his troops.
