As an undergrad, i was both excited to be with those people and al so really shocked that there was no sense of equity in those spaces. The whole notion of the conference brought back sort of excitement and trepidation. So it struck me that they're a place of privilege, but that often the privileged in those spaces have started off going to an undergroud. But i am a scholar of environmental humanities, so that brings its own racial a cast of characters. There's a lot of white environmentalism inthose spaces.
