The aim of science as such is simple truth. Any attempt to make social reform the immediate, instead of te mmediate, object of a search for truth will inevitably tend to defeat both objects. So what he's saying there basically is, even if youhave got some kind of social agenda for your social science, you should just pursue the tru and forget about your igenda.
