The Valerian Threat to Stop Doing Business

The threat to remove your business doesn't mean that much if you're a small player. House Valerian is sworn to Stannis now, and that's what it would have been then too. You also wonder what was going on with the Valerians during the time when they were looking for a bride for Rhaegar. Were they no longer worthy? Because their fortune had fallen so far, they just maybe just didn't have any daughters. But maybe they just lost the prestige required for that. And they're like, yeah, we don't, you guys just aren't fancy and famous enough anymore for Targaryen.
