The Myth of the Thigh
Sebastian: There's a curious story that has come down to us about the ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician, and sage known as Pythagoras. Aristotle tells us that those men who were sitting near Pythagoras swore that the philosopher's upper leg was made of solid gold. In many ancient cultures, the thigh was thought to be part of the male reproductive system. For instance, in English translations of the Old Testament, the many sons of the patriarch Jacob are said to have come from his thigh.
