The American Revolution: A Struggle to Create a New Identity
Carrienne Lindsay looked at how Americans, after the revolution, created a new identity. She found that while their victory in the Revolutionary War granted Americans formal political freedom, the colonists remained economically, intellectually, and culturally dependent on the mother country for generations. "I look at the revolution as the first, rather than the final step on this long road to independence from Great Britain," she said.
