"I'm into Metallica and all that," he says. "The dead with me started with a band called the New Riders of Papeils for Purple Sage" The Grateful Dead hit him around 15 years ago, when one of their members jumped off a balcony high on acid. He was raised by a Puerto Rican woman who told him they were spin-offs of the dead.
