The Importance of Wisdom and Virtue in the Gentile Philosophy

Some people prefer worldly wisdom and virtue before that of the Christian. This is a prejudice which may weaken the influence of the gospel, I will show. They could not agree about their chief good or where to place the happiness of mankind. The second great defect in the Gentile philosophy was that it needed some suitable reward proportioned to the better part of man's mind as an encouragement for his progress in virtue.
