The Influence of Cesar Baccaria on the Law
Milanese aristocrats Cesar Baccaria and British intellectual Jeremy Bentham are two figures in particular that should be in the conversation. Baccaria is most known for his book On Crimes and Punishments, which proffered the idea that criminal justice should be preventative rather than punitive. But like many other great intellectuals throughout history, he was also a noted economist and social theorist.
