There are a lot of possible motives that could still be illustrated here. Dorcas does have a characteristic that people associate with well-bredness. Kildegrin also kind of gives us an interesting spin on the birds. He says, now this, this is something you're not likely to forget if you've never done it before, crossing the lake of birds. Whenever there's dead men and quiet, you'll find a good many birds. That's been my experience. There's a great deal set against death. I mean, by the people that has to die, drawing a picture like a crone with a sack and all that. But she's a good friend to birds.
