Is That a Typewriter?
If you see trimmed pages, no folds and a lot of glue, that book is perfect bound. This is called smite's zone. If you want to double check it's my zone, page through the signatures. See if you can find the center sig where it lays the most flat. There is actually about an inch long pieces of thread that are sewn through the book.
