PTSD is the syndrome where it's most demonstrated. You see expansion of the amygdala and you see atrophy of the hippocampus, glucocorticoids probably play the driving role in both. The problem with chronic stress in the amygdala is it works better than it's supposed to. Stress makes people crappier to each other and less empathic and more parochial when they're in pain.
