The Rise of the Underground Economy in the US
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Oakland saw a surge in violence. The city's violent crime rate increased by 500 to 700 percent between 1960 and 1980. Felix Mitchell was a very prominent drug lord in East Oakland. He got his start as a junior panther, he was one of these young black kids that grew up in D.P. Stokeland but also had ties to Huey Newton.
