The Golden Muck and the Aberdeen Bestiary
Bestiaries as a tradition begin back as early as the second century AD in Alexandria. They were probably produced by monks and artists working for monks. Relatively small and so detailed and so wonderful. Some of them with most ornate gold, uppers in strange and marvellous colours. And they're one of the few ways that we can visit the mindset of these medieval Christians.
