The Importance of Knowing How Much Blood Is Into My Bag
The idea is to take this blood off and dilute them before the bleeding starts. That's why in cardiac they have usually eight and a half French internal jugular path which is about the diameter of a bic pen if you haven't seen them. Those bags are attuned to specific collection volumes, right? And if you overfill the bag, which I've done one time, I have seen plots in the bag. So you can overwhelm the amount of anticoagulant if you overfilled the bag. As a precaution, they add a thousand units of heparin to each bag, just in case.
