The author of the book Teaching the Trivium Christian Home Schooling and a Classical Style says that formalized workbook based instruction in mathematics should not begin for children until about the age of 10. "Math is something that I'm not sure that it should be learned early for most people," he said. If your child is not succeeding with math at the age of five, then you should push off the study of math to a time when the child's brain is more prepared to accept it.
