CHAPTER

The Importance of Consumer Capitalism

In the 19th century, industrial capitalism was focused on producing more efficiently. The problem is that more people you get producing lots of stuff cheaply, you will saturate the market at some point. In order to get people to buy more, then you have to get money in their pockets and they can buy. This is kind of the question of the hour is like, what do we do with capitalism now that we're stuck with it? Can we direct it in a way that's going to be better for the climate, better for the earth, better for resources? I don't know.
