The Class System of the Bantu Languages
Seven noun classes, a typical of the languages derived from Proto-Western. Class one is humans and other beings capable of speech. It can also be animals and fables or gods or spirits or whatever. The edibility thing figures into the classes a little bit because you have one... Class two is solid, inedible objects or mushy edible objects. There's also sort of stuff like liquids, fire, wind, tangible things.
