Introduction

In 2011, the government was going to spend $450 million to bring high-speed rail to New Jersey. The project was supposed to take six years but it actually took twice that and is still in process. If you do the math on this, you find that this $450 million upgrade saves the average passenger a grand total of 100 seconds. But along with the train upgrades, Amtrak upgraded the Moynihan train station in New York City. It ended up costing them about 100 extra seconds of walking time.
