The Power of Extensive Reading
Exhaustive reading as a language acquisition process is very, very powerful. When you get that level right, though, the reader will automatically acquire the vocabulary. The Losinco books are fascinating to my son because they have a significant number of words that he doesn't know but he knows enough to be able to capture the gist of the story. He'll break out some word that I simply don't know and it's something that he picked up exclusively from his reading.
