Introduction
In this lecture, we'll look at how Gerard's theory of human nature can be applied to our own lives. We're about to enter a social world that will be barely recognizable to the modern eye. The dominant modern framework for understanding man is homo-economicus - rational, utility maximizing agents. But Gerard shows us that this understanding is terribly limited and most of us are driven by pride, envy and rivalry.
