Carrier screening is a genetic test of the parents to see if they are carriers for 283 diseases that could be passed to their children. There's about a 25 % chance each time a woman gets pregnant, that ther ild could actually have the disease. So many women carry diseases they have no idea, and the ittle etll never be affected by it. The only reason you may like to wait until second dating or some sort of marriage before doing carrier screening is because new research has come up with new conditions which can't be detected during pregnancy.
