The Rite of Spring by Jennifer Higdon
The Rite of Spring is by contemporary American composer Jennifer Higdon. The piece returns that really beautiful refrain at just the moments where it has the most poignancy. I think if something is repeated too often to me, it almost sounds patronising like someone's trying to teach me something in a very clumsy way or doesn't credit me with enough emotional intelligence not to need to hear the same refrain over and over and over. This piece made me feel like it was bringing me home.
