Shagufta Amat gave me a copy of Alex Haley's roots and I was also against it quite young. She said yeah it's you're a little young for this book but I think you can read it for me that's an act of mentorship. The system of education actually is hampering somebody like you will not able to fit into this thing which is beautiful. There are many teachers who really are amazing people, even so this teacher wasn't exactly a mentor for me.
She's a filmmaker, feminist, artist, writer -- impossible to pin down, a connoisseur of multitudes.
