TypeScript - What Are the Benefits?

To use TypeScript, you need to know more than just 10 or 20% of your code. The thing that scares me is there are a lot of people who they say they know TypeScript, but when push comes to shove, it just becomes a sea of any's. I would say that transforming a JavaScript code base into strict TypeScript is so much harder than writing tests.
