How to Get Rid of Birds at the Airport
LaGuardia airport has a bird supervisor who's available 24 hours a day 365 days a year to perform wildlife control activities. They also have observers monitoring the airfield and if birds are found then people are notified to remove the birds. The NTSB says both engines were operating normally until they each ingested at least two large birds, which weighed about eight pounds each,. One of which was ingested into each engine core, causing mechanical damage that prevented the engines from being able to provide sufficient thrust to sustain flight.
