God's Promise to Abraham

The superior lends the oath giver their credibility. A credibility founded in the character of the superior. Witnesses swear an oath as a means of giving a legal guarantee of the truthfulness of the words. And so what God did is he says over in verse chapter 15 of Genesis, or 17, in Genesis that he told Abraham to get some sacrifices.
