How Did the People Who Discovered Quantum Mechanics Feel?
By the 1920s Einstein was doing verbal combat with his colleagues over how to think about quantum mechanics. He wasn't willing to take as he was very reluctant to accept the idea that an electron could be in a superposition of different states. And this is kind of what he's getting at with this. Although his feelings about this were probably more complicated than any one catchphrase can encapsulate.
