The Franco regime constructed a massive new prison in 1944-1945, the outskirts of Madrid called Caravanciao. It had this really curious mixture of high Catholic imagery and a Greco-Roman neo-classisist style. Many of the common prisoners were actually seen as like redeemable. They were redeemable, the kind of criminals.
